06-086 ASIC appoints new NT Regional Commissioner

Monday 27 March 2006

The Chairman of ASIC, Mr Jeffrey Lucy, today announced the appointment of Mr Duncan Poulson as Northern Territory Regional Commissioner for the next two years.

Mr Poulson was appointed Acting Regional Commissioner in December 2005, having previously served as a lawyer with ASIC since October 2000.

He is currently a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Courts of the Northern Territory and Tasmania.

Mr Lucy welcomed Mr Poulson’s appointment, noting his contribution to ASIC’s enforcement, regulatory, and educational programs throughout the Northern Territory.

‘Duncan has made an invaluable contribution to a team committed to promoting business confidence in the Territory. His assistance and advice to companies, investors and consumers has been integral to ASIC’s success,’ Mr Lucy said.

‘I’m confident Duncan will continue to build on his work with ASIC to date and make a very positive contribution as Regional Commissioner.’

Mr Poulson holds a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws from the University of Tasmania and was previously a lecturer in Commercial Law and International Business at the University.

He replaces former Northern Territory Regional Commissioner, Mr Anthony Beven, who was appointed ASIC’s South Australian Regional Commissioner in December 2005.
