Most home contents polices ask you to declare 'collections' separately. A collection means similar items that together exceed a certain amount in value.

Some people assume that 'collections' means only things like art, stamps and coins. However, if you buy compact discs or DVDs, you may soon build up a collection whose total value exceeds the minimum amount that your insurance company asks you to declare.

If you don't declare this collection, then you may not be able to claim the full amount of your loss if your CDs or DVDs get stolen or damaged.

Make sure you have enough insurance for your home

Many home owners do not have enough insurance cover on their home. This can be extremely costly in the unfortunate event of losing your home. Increasing your insurance cover may not cost very much, and you may even be able to get more cover for the same or a lower price.
